Hopeful for Little Mix

Every year we tune into X-factor, get hooked and support our favourites all the way to the final. They win, bring out an album and then they disappear into the distance where previous X-factor winners are waiting for them. It’s a strange competition, probably one of the very few where entrants hope to come second or third.

The latest winners, Little Mix, are a band that could be liked by your daughter and your mother. They have just released their very first single since the show called ‘Wings’. Previous years have not been successful for female bands but the four piece, put together in bootcamp are the very first girlband to have won the competition.

Week by week the nation watched their friendship grow and it blossomed during their performances. I think what made them so likeable was that they weren’t forced to be ‘sexy’ like previous girl groups had, they remained young girls grateful for their opportunity.

‘Wings’ is refreshing, it reflects the girls in the way viewers watched them all the way through the show. It’s not a song about men, sex, cars or money; it’s a song about doing what you want to and not letting anyone stand in the way.

It’s perfect pop, catchy, fun and positive. I think it’s what’s been missing from our iPods recently, a song that our kids should be singing along to, not a song beyond their years that even adults would be embarrassed to listen to in front of their parents.

I hope that Little Mix can continue success in a clean and happy way, they seem perfect role models for the next generation.

Little Mix are Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall.
